I write about what happens when life changes us— and about the ways we try to understand, remember, and make meaning from those changes.
My work moves between poetry, creative nonfiction, literary criticism, journalism, dramatic writing, and research. I write about illness and identity, childhood and memory, literature and history, and the people and questions that make up the world around me.
Sometimes I write inward, trying to understand an experience from the inside.
Sometimes I write outward, investigating a question in my school or community.
Sometimes I write through characters, allowing a conflict to unfold between people rather than explaining it directly. In each, I am interested in looking closely at what is easy to overlook.
